Flowers of the principal nations who fought and died in the Great War 1914 – 18 along with the animals, stylized in this beautiful Brooch/ Lapel Pin in the form of a wreath.

Simple wildflowers adopted by the main antagonists on the Western Front and other theatres of war, Gallipoli, Italy, Mesopotamia & Arabia, as national flowers for remembrance. Not surprising that these Floral symbols became synonymous with the terrible sacrifice and suffering, then and continues to this day.

It is only right the addition of the purple poppy to the animals, horses, dogs, camels, even the tunnelers best friend the Canaries.  They should be present because they had no choice.

Composition of the ‘Wreath of Remembrance’

The Poppy – widely known in various forms with the following nations – America the first in December 1918 to take up on John Macrae’s immortal poem ’In Flanders Fields’ shortly followed England, Wales & Scotland Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Northern Ireland and South Africa etc.

The Forget-me-not (die blume vergiss mich nicht)– Germany. (although The Kaisers favourite flower was the Cornflower/Kornblume so this also applies)

The Daisy – Belgium, symbolising faithful love and memories.

The Purple Poppy – For the animals killed in conflict

The Cornflower (le Bleuet slang) – France first adopted in the winter of 1914, after their great loses in Artois, paper versions were made to give the many casualties work and money from the sales.

The Marigold – India.  The newest one, since November 2018 it has been decreed by the Indian Government the saffron Marigold would replace the poppy as their flower for suffering and remembrance.

Also included is a trace of Wattle which to the ANZAC’S signifies Gallipoli. Plus the traditional Laurel the use of which dates back the Roman times.
